OHP - Rednecks and Hillbillies the True Story
It’s a Revolution and we are not talking about the Beetles! This past weekend I went on vacation and got to explore the Battlefields of Kings Mountain and Cowpens and get back to the part of history that I am not so well versed in. I learned a lot and the learning did not stop when I got home. Butch knowing that I was off to seek adventure in the 1700’s pulled out a story for my return.
In our "In the Dirt with American Digger" segmet this week we learned:
The origins of the Hillbillies and/or Rednecks may not be what you expect. Join us and hear the true story. Also, you can take the Tours of the battlefields with me as I post the shots I took while on the road. I will post them on our Forum: http://ourhistoryproject.lefora.com/forum/

Our History Project – Helen Denton – A Life of Service
I had the honor of interviewing Mrs. Helen Denton this week. Folks, this is truly a remarkable woman and you will undoubtedly find her life as interesting as I did. Just some highlights: She typed the D-day Order’s for June 6th, 1944 - She cut a rug with Lawrence Welk - She stopped a moving train –She meet the Queen and much, much more. In fact there is way too much to even to begin to list.
She is one of Georgia’s most interviewed people, but I think we got a story that was different and inspiring. I have included the excellent “GA PBS TV” interview that you can watch as well. I suggest that you take our interview with you on the road and watch the video at home. Both interviews will give you the complete picture of this legend of service. This is great story of service, community, sadness, hope and sharing.
Don’t Miss It!
Not to Confuse you “Our Show is The Black and Moving Green Bar at our site – www.ourhistroyproject.com!” Just like the one here.

Our History Project - In the Dirt with American Digger - 06-24-09
Folks, this week Butch and I did not solve the world’s problems or really made a difference in anyway. But, we did have a great time and you will learn a lot. From Relic Shows to Laundering Money to how much of a difference you make in Our History Project. It’s all there.
Take a drink of water before listening and this is one that driving while listening is not recommended. Be ready to laugh. Come on and spend 30 minutes with us you will not be disappointed with this one.
Oh, there is a giveaway on this one (The Illustrated Directory of The Old West, by William C. Davis) so listen and find out how you can win. A chance to win something and a good time, what more can you ask for?
OHP - On The Air
I want to thank Tim Weisberg, Mat Costa and Mat Moniz for inviting me on to Spooky Southcoast Radio WBSM 1420 Saturday night and letting me talk about Our History Project. We talked history but they have an awesome paranormal show if that is up your alley. Listen to the show Saturday’s 10-midnight, the station has an online stream of the show. This coming week they will be discussing the Bridgewater Triangle and the King Philip’s War.

Our History Project – “Titanic’s Last Secrets” – Brad Matsen
This week we are pleased to have Historian, Writer, Researcher and Explorer Brad Matsen. Brad is here to talk about his latest book “Titanic’s Last Secrets”. The book and the interview leaves nothing out or to chance. We go behind the scenes to explore the truth of the sinking, who knew what and when. And, we will also talk about the people who built the ship, the cover-ups and the conspiracy theories about this ship and it’s sinking. We will also answer the age old question of – “Why does the world romanticize this tragedy?”
This is the stuff of legend folks!
I will be posting a review of this book soon, and let me tell you know – It is worth the time! Full review coming soon to the Our History Project Book Review blog.

Our History Project – “In the Dirt with American Digger” – Getting Started in Metal Detecting: The Beginners Guide
This week we on Our History Project’s “In the Dirt with American Digger” segment we host what you would call the Beginners Guide to the Hobby of Metal Detecting. From the stores, to the machines, to the places to hunt. The contacts, groups, strategies and more, it’s all here.
So if you have ever had the question asked of you your asked just to yourself – “What do you find with that thing?” Or better yet –“How do I get me one?” Then this show is for them - or you.
Our History Project is Nonprofit and open sourced, we promote Preservation and Education of our history, and as I have always said – “That starts with you!” – and in this show we will tell you how.
If you would like this show hosted by a player on your site or your business site send me an email and I will supply the code, it’s free. It will put a player on your page just like we have on ours (nothing to install and nothing goes on your server). If you would like I can even take off the opening comments (just let me know). The main goal of this episode is to promote our hobby in a positive light and give a basic foundation on which to grow. Bringing new blood into our world of research, history and preserving artifacts can only increase our understanding of the past.
Pass this show around folks!

Our History Project – The Steam Ship Arabia - Charlie Harris
This week on Our History Project we talk with Charlie Harris, Author of several books and a contributing writer to American Digger Magazine. Charlie is going to tell us the saga of the Steam Ship Arabia. The amazing thing about this wreck – you will not believe where it was found and what was on it.
Don’t forget on Wednesday we will have the “In the Dirt with American Digger” segment. Butch from American Digger Magazine will be in to talk about the hobby of Metal Detecting. And, knowing us, you never know where we will end up!

Our History Project – “In the Dirt with American Digger” Wednesday
Our History Project – “In the Dirt with American Digger” Wednesday
Our new format is going to put the “In the Dirt with American Digger” segment to be released on Wednesdays. This is a popular part of our program and well; I have a great time with Butch. There are many times when we ramble about the important part of relic and treasure hunting and times we just spend having a good time. This new format will allow time to be spent on the things that matter (information and how to’s) without the small time constraint we were on.
Most segments will still be 15-20 minutes in length but it will give us the additional time when needed, to go longer.
Enough of the Explanation! On with the Show!
This week we learn about “Bottle Hunting”! What it is, how to do it, what to look for, what tools to bring and the do-s and don’t-s.
This is something I have never tried but I know it is very popular in some circles and I do know that there are plenty of collectors out there. Come and join us as Butch introduces us to the sport (?) of “Bottle Hunting”.

Our History Project – June 6th, 1944
This week we celibrate the 65th Anniversary of the Invasion of Normandy (D-Day) and remember those who were there and those who have fallen there.
Our guest this week is Colonel Spencer Wurst, who made the jump that faithful day with the 82nd Airborne. He was part of Company F of the 505 Parachute Infantry Regiment. He made three of the four combat jumps, dropping into Italy, Normandy and Holland.
He along with his niece Gayle Wurst co-Authored a book entitled “Descending from the Clouds”. An autographed copy f the book can be obtained by contacting Princeton International Agency for the Arts, LLC., 626 Brickhouse Rd., Princeton NJ, 08540. Phone (609) 252-9278 or by email: prinart@aol.com.
Join us as Col. Wurst remembers his eventful day of June 6th, 1944.
“In the Dirt With American Digger”
We thought we would change it up a little this week. Butch and I had so much to talk about that we gave him his own spot and his own day.
This show will be released on Wednesday June 10th.
I did include some cuts of our show in this episode with Col. Wurst. That being said, the first person who can guess what Our History Project’s “In the Dirt with American Digger” is about will receive a copy of the book “The Education of Chauncey Doolittle” by James Everett Kibler. My review can be found on Our History Project Book Review Blog as well as Amazon.com.
To win, be the first one to email me craiganderson@ourhistoryproject.com and tell me what the main topic will be. It’s a hard one folks, the clues are there, so listen to win.

Our History Project, Inc. is a National Non-Profit Organization based in McDonough, GA. Our Mission and Vision is the Preservation and Education of Our United States History.
We are updating
In March of this year we have moved servers and are in the process of moving all of our audio over to our own. It was due to excessive rising cost and the lowering of service that prompted this move. Please bear with us as we make this transition. If there is a show you are looking for and do not see here as of yet, feel free to contact us and we can get you a direct download link.
