Our History Project - 05-30-09 - Museum of Avaiation - Warner Robins, GA

This week we traveled to Warner Robins , GA and had a visit with Mike Rowland who gave us not only a great tour of the Aviation Museum but gave us a lot of stories behind the planes and the people who flew them. Join us as we learn about our Air Corps from Mike and the Air Force Museum. Just a few stories we will hear covers the great figures in aviation such as Claire Chennault, Robert L. Scott and C. Alfred “Chief” Anderson.
More information can be found at their website: http://www.museumofaviation.org/

If you plan on visiting I would recommend at least an hour and a half just to take the whirlwind tour. Plan on staying the day to get the full effect and story. This is a huge facility folks with several building and a garden of planes outside.

American Digger Magazine“In the Dirt with American Digger”

This week Butch poses the question to you – Do you have what it takes to be a publisher?

In a presentation that only Butch Holcombe could possibly give, he sheds some light on what it really takes to make that commitment. Also we explore the other posing and controversial question: “You just ain’t right!?” It may surprise you as it did me. And, all these years I thought I was normal.

Our History Project - Memorial Day Special

This week Our History Project pays tribute to all of the fallen Patriots, Soldiers and Private Citizens of our great country who gave their life for our country and for us. Join us this week as we remember our history through a collection of short stories that covers our history from the Revolutionary War to the Current Middle Eastern Conflict.

There are 2, one (1) hour segments that make up this week’s show, but don’t worry about the length of this one. It is fast paced and crammed full of interesting tales which I guarantee you most have never heard. The first segment (hour 1) covers the Revolutionary War to World War II. The second segment (hour 2) covers Korea to the current War on Terror and also includes the American Digger segment of our show.

Each story is from 3 to 10 minutes long and covers a War Story and a Home Front Story from each, so it will be easy to come back to time and time again.

Can’t sit at a computer that long to listen? Burn a disk and take us on a drive to work, school or vacation. We have made the shows so that they can be downloaded and burned, in most cases to 1 CD. Better yet put it on an I-Pod or MP3 player and take us on a jog or out in the yard to cut grass.

In simple terms, Yes! We travel !!!!

Have a great Week,

Craig

Our History Project - 05-16-09 - John Robert (Bob) Slaughter - D-Day & Omaha Beach

This weeks Guest is John Robert Slaughter, but most know him as Bob Slaughter.

Bob was gracious enough to come on and spend some time with us to discuss not only his book but to recount his firsthand experiences on that historic day on the Normandy Coastline.

He gives us a glimpse through his eyes on what happened and how he survived. We do have a limited time frame in doing the shows and there was a lot we discussed that I wish I could have included about life, friends, family, honour and just growing up. I have invited Bob back for another show so he can get out in detail on some of the topics we talked about.

His book: "Omaha Beach and Beyond" The Long March of Bob Slaughter is a very good read and I will be posting a review soon on Our History Project Book Review. A short Bio on Bob can be found now at Our History Project Authors Corner.

Historic Travel - Pathfinder Tours

In interviewing Bob I found out that he is going back to Normandy and you can go too. Mark Patterson of Pathfinder Tours is taking Bob and a group of people back to the Beachhead and more. Bob will be the personal guide. We had an interview with Mark as well to find out more about the trip.

Mark also has a Online Museum and Database of writings, documents and photos that cover the American Paratroopers of World War 2 and it can be found at http://www.ww2paratroopers.com/.

Our History Project - American Digger Special Edition

Our History Project Presents: "In The Dirt With American Digger" Extended Version!

That's right folks! There was so much going on this week we decided to do an extended segment with Butch Holcombe and "In the Dirt with American Digger".

In this segment we meet John Velke, Copy Editor for American Digger Magazine and Co-Host of On The Road With American Digger. John shares with us a story and a find.

We also learned that Butch did not get my present before going to Vicksburg, But he did find some things and some not even Relic related.

I have such fun with Butch anyways and it does not seem long enough during a normal show, so we thought we would just ramble a while.

Our History Project - The Final Chapter - Aaron Cadieux - King Philips War

This week the final chapter of King Philip's War with guest and Film Maker Aaron Cadieux whose is working on the Documentary "The First Patriots". Try as we may it is going to go 1 more week and finish with part 3. We will try not to do many of these continuations often, however since more than 95% of Americans know anything of this war we thought it was important to share this story.

A couple of things to note: King Philip was not English nor was he French, he in fact was the chief of the Wampanoag Indians and this war was also referred to as Metacomet's War or Metacom's Rebellion. In this episode the war begins the atrocities begin as well, so parents you may want to listen first.

This has been a fascinating series and we thank Aaron Cadieux for giving his time and knowledge to us and sharing this piece of history. When this video is released, we have offered and I hope the offer was accepted, we will be hosting viewing of this film in the Atlanta Area. If you, your group or historical organization would be willing to host such an event please let me know. I would be a wonderful testament for this story to reach all 50 states.

On the lighter side Butch Holcombe with American Digger Magazine stopped by for some fun and a couple of stories with a promise to call us from the field if he makes a great find this week on vacation.

-Craig

A complete Biography on Aaron can be found on Our History Project - Authors Corner.

About Us

Our History Project, Inc. is a National Non-Profit Organization based in McDonough, GA. Our Mission and Vision is the Preservation and Education of Our United States History.

We are updating

In March of this year we have moved servers and are in the process of moving all of our audio over to our own. It was due to excessive rising cost and the lowering of service that prompted this move. Please bear with us as we make this transition. If there is a show you are looking for and do not see here as of yet, feel free to contact us and we can get you a direct download link.
