Mission
______________________________________________________________________
Our Mission and Goal are first and foremost "Preservation" and "Education." We will focus immediately on the preservation of oral history through Our History Project shows that will be available each week. We want to educate you and your children on the undocumented; (such as first hand accounts, journals, day books, letters and discussions of not only the people and their experiences but also researchers and experts); facts through history as it relates to a personal experience. Very soon we will encompass the written word into Our History Project. This site will serve as a repository for personal writings that document not only day to day life in America, but also center around and cover events that have shaped our country.
Our History Project has a weekly podcast show that will take history and make it his - story. It will be available here to stream or download as well as i-tune, zune market place and a host of podcast feeds throughout the world. We will focus on the story behind the story, capturing history from first hand accounts, when possible, and bring to light what impact those decisions made in their lives. We know the history; we can see the facts, now let's hear the influence of those events from the people who were there. Our goal is preservation and education; we want to preserve these memories for the ages, or in the immortal words of author and poet Joseph Rudyard Kipling - "Least we forget."
As researchers we are always excited and are in fact looking for those journals, writings and daybooks to give more insight into our history. A record that may give way to details left out of the mainstream documentation. A case in point - We know during The War Between the States in the Atlanta Campaign 1865, troop movements, battles and skirmishes happened. We know the dates, days and times. However, it takes personal writing in journals to understand the hardships faced - food, water, shelter - what did they do to survive? It's those personal accounts that bring the reality to our families and our nation. It is these events that shaped our time and our country. It is these accounts that we want to persevere.
Along the way we will make many stops at some likely and unlikely places. We will learn about the small towns; have guided tours through national historic and local historic places. We will hear about behind the scene activities and learn some unknown facts about the people and places.
We will also explore places where you can dig up more research information. We will tour the local, state and federal archives, their collections and interview the managers and curators. We will talk to other historians, archaeologists and researchers, and in the process try and help you find more tools that will aid you in your research.
Our Vision of the Future:
As this project grows we have big plans and a greater vision. We also understand that there are stepping stones to get there, but with your help we will get there.
In 2011 and 2012 we will be focusing on a mobile museum and education center that we can take on the road. This is an exciting and new concept in taking our history to the community. We will start with the American Civil War (War Between the States), then expand so that collection can be switched out to other eras of history, such as the Revolution, World War I, World War II, Korea and Vietnam. Items will include artifacts, weapons, cause and effect displays, uniforms and encampment.
We want to be a repository and a source to study, learn and explore the world of not only historical fact, but we also want to include those documents and wittings that are in essence facts but reveal more. We are talking about journals, day books and letters. We envision a complete staff dedicated to referencing and assimilating the information sent in to Our History Project. Can you imagine all the information that can be revealed, documented, housed and readily on hand to anyone with a computer anywhere in the world?
We want you to send in those documents that you have re-typed, and you can start sending those in soon. We will ask that you send your name, address, contact phone number, and e-mail address so we may contact you later when this part of the project rolls out. (No personal information will be shared or given out; it will only be used to contact you for releases of the document so they can be viewed here and/or included in future programs or projects by Our History Project.) We do not want wills at this time unless you see a significant historical value to it. You may send it them to be reviewed by a panel.
We also have visions of a program that will send knowledgeable volunteers into the classroom - those who can relate historical events in a manor that will be meaningful and understandable to children. We also want to produce entertaining short versions of historical events in a fun way that will be interesting for kids to hear and you can take along with you.
We will be contacting the United States Board of Education and State Board of Education to develop a national curriculum that can be integrated into the classroom throughout the Country.
There are countless other places this project can go and grow. Our vision includes immediate, short and long term goals; however, we are always open to new ideas and will welcome them.
The main thing we cannot stress enough is - It is OUR history, let's document and chronicle it. The good the bad and the ugly, it is OURS to remember or to forget. Only you can choose which it will be.

We are updating
In March of this year we have moved servers and are in the process of moving all of our audio over to our own. It was due to excessive rising cost and the lowering of service that prompted this move. Please bear with us as we make this transition. If there is a show you are looking for and do not see here as of yet, feel free to contact us and we can get you a direct download link.
